Learning in the Summer Sun

With summer coming to an end it’s important to make the most of your free time. Below are some activity ideas from The Tutoring Center, Johns Creek to help you and your youngster have fun while learning during the summer.

Host a Reading Picnic

Gather your youngster and a small group of their friends and head to the local bookstore. Let them choose a book and get a copy for everybody. Once you have these, pack your picnic rudiments and head to your local park. Once you're there, have everybody read the book together, stopping after each chapter to discuss the story and what they think will happen. This is a great way to encourage a love of reading in your youngster and also to help you to identify any reading challenges they are experiencing.

Outdoor Board Games

If your youngster loved their reading picnic, then they will love to take board games to the park. Instead of a living room-based family game night, make it a family game picnic! Try to choose games which involve a little bit of learning, such as Monopoly for math or even Trivial Pursuit (at a relevant level) to assist with their history or geography knowledge. If you have the time you can also make your own cards designed to target any challenging subjects your student has been struggling with.
